SUPER BOWL XLIV FACT SHEET

On February 7, 2010, South Florida will host Super Bowl XLIV, a record 10th time and more than any Super Bowl region has ever hosted this monumental event. Another first for 2010, the Pro Bowl will also be played on South Florida turf, the first time in 30 years the game has left its annual home in Hawaii.

The selection of South Florida to host a record 10 Super Bowls, the most of any city/region with New Orleans a close second at nine, is due in large part to weather as most would assume though it is so much more. The team owners love the stadium, South Florida's special events venues, the number of quality hotels, easily accessible airport especially this year in Broward with the airport within a five-minute drive of the Media Center at the Broward County Convention Center and 10 minutes from the headquarter hotel and cluster. Of course, there is also the destination, South Florida is an exciting, vibrant region with world-class entertainment, shopping and dining, all with the back drop of the warm waters of the Atlantic and more than 3,000 hours of sunshine. It's sun, fun, beach and football, what more could diehard fans want.  That is the reason that approximately 130,000 fans come descend upon South Florida during Super Bowl week, without a ticket to the game, so that they can experience the buzz and exciting of the activities.

  • For the first time in more than 30 years the Pro Bowl will be played in South Florida, with an estimated economic impact of $180 million. This change of venue provides fans living east of the Mississippi a rare opportunity to book a visit to South Florida for the purpose of attending the Pro Bowl game and the open practice in the Greater Fort Lauderdale.

  • Broward is expected to receive about 45-50% (a 5-10% increase). The reason for the increase is due to the NFL Headquarters, the Media Headquarters and a number of NFL events scheduled to be held in Greater Fort Lauderdale in 2010, a first for Broward. Regardless of the economic impact, the media exposure we receive this year especially is: PRICELESS.

  • In 2007, South Florida had an economic impact of $463.34 million of which Broward County
received an estimated 40% totaling $186 million

  • Super Bowl XXXIII in 1999, had an estimated $395 million impact on South Florida's economy

  • In 1995, the economic impact was determined to be $365 million
