With Super Bowl XLI in the history books, it’s time to get back into my regular routine and begin the mourning process over the Bear’s loss. Don’t get me wrong, last week was one of the most exciting weeks of my life, but the mayhem had to come to an end at some point, I just wish the outcome was different. I must give some credit to the Colts because they played pretty well last night, but the Bears helped them out quite a bit by playing as poorly as they did. At opening kickoff, I thought we had the game in the bag, but soon after you could slowly see the momentum shift the other direction and stay there for the rest of the night. The Bears just couldn’t seem to keep their defense off the field giving Peyton Manning too much time to do what he does best; win football games. Every attempt that Rex Grossman made to surmount a comeback was quickly squashed by his inexperience and lack of composure. I hate to say it, but I wasn’t surprised to see him fumbling snaps and throwing interceptions. In fact, in the beginning of the fourth quarter I found myself wondering if a quarterback has ever been benched during a Super Bowl. If it was ever going to happen, it should’ve happened last night. To put it as nicely as possible, I hope to see the Bears back in the Super Bowl next year, but next year, they had better come with a different quarterback.
For now, however, it’s time to roll up the red carpets, take down the banners, and say goodbye to all of the football stars and celebrities who came down to South Florida for a week of parties and festivities. Let’s also not forget to say goodbye to the hundreds of thousands of football fans, most without tickets, who migrated down to South Florida to soak up the whole experience (rain and all). It’s a shame we had to send them off with umbrellas in hand, but such was the will of Mother Nature. We hadn’t had rain or clouds for the last 3 weeks down here and wouldn’t you know it, on the day of the big game, we get wet. This morning the rain finally stopped and we’re supposed to get back to our normal warm and sunny weather by the middle of the week. Say what you will about the weather we’ve had the past two days, but at least it’s not snowing.
