Oct 5: DINE OUT LAUDERDALE, Week One
We have a contest in the office to see who can dine at the most Dine Out Lauderdale restaurants in the next six weeks. What a great start I had for the opening week! Looks like I am in the lead for sure. On Monday evening, October 1, we celebrated a birthday at Cero at the new St. Regis Resort on Fort Lauderdale beach, where I will definitely return. The lighted alabaster bar is magnificent with the view of the King Neptune painting hovering above. Can you see the three horses and Neptune in the huge ocean painting? The adjoining wine bar is so elegant with fabulous crystal chandeliers and warm dark wood. Now on to the restaurant, the real highlight of the evening. The tableware is beautiful, even the fish fork. An amuse bouche of chilled tomato soup was served in a teeny tiny square frosted glass dish. The bread lady was gracious in her diverse offerings. All service staff here from the doorman to the bartender, are super attentive. Do not miss the yellow and red grape tomatoes and mozzarella and arugula salad with the dehydrated tomato crisp on top. Wow, what perfect flavors. And the gnocchi appetizer was oh-so-fab. For the entree, the diver scallops were day boat fresh and the Cornish hen was delicious. While the desserts all looked like masterpieces, the key lime cheesecake lollipops were my favorite. Each diner receives both the regular menu and the Dine Out Lauderdale with the elegant Cero covers. $5 for valet parking when you dine at Cero. It was a lovely evening that will be hard to top.

Food Amongst the Flowers in Wilton Manors. The four divas enjoyed a martini at the adjoining bar first. Live music started a little later. The salad with sliced mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato and fresh basil was soaked with tomato vinaigrette. The rack of lamb was finger lickin’ good. Everyone cleaned their plates, so the steak, sesame seared tuna and chicken were good too. While the chocolate pyramid was not available, they served an interesting bittersweet mocha cheesecake. No printed menu for Dine Out Lauderdale was available, but the young waiter helped us navigate the four options. It was a fun evening.

Blue Moon Fish Company in Lauderdale By the Sea. We opted to sit outside along the Intracoastal to watch the Commercial Boulevard bridge open up and let the yachts pass by. Actually there were also some jet skiers not adhering to the no wake zone, and even a manatee showed up much to my delight. The crab and crawfish cake appetizer was spicy, the Caesar salad large and the main course choices of grilled filet mignon and blackened mahi mahi with jumbo shrimp and scallops. were quite tasty. Not much room left, but I managed to enjoy the crème brulee and chocolate torte dessert choices. Had to ask for the Dine Out menu though. Wait staff was friendly. Free valet parking.

3030 Ocean at Harbor Beach Marriott features a Dine Out menu which changes daily. It was black tipped shark. Sounded scary but was amazingly quite delicious. The vegetables, especially the eggplant, just melted in your mouth. And we were thrilled to get a chance to speak with Chef Dean Max who explained all the dishes to us. The potato and leek soup was dreamy with smoky bacon flavors. And dessert was light as a feather….the fresh pineapple sorbet and the coconut cake melted in your mouth. Do not forget to get validated at the restaurant reception area for free parking inside the hotel garage.

I also managed to eat lunch at Himmarshee Bar and Grille in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The crispy duck confit was excellent. And for $10 including a beverage, it was an unbeatable deal. Looking forward to dinner there soon.

Only five more weeks remaining to take advantage of these Dine Out Lauderdeals. Now that I have sampled five of these fine restaurants, this weekend I really plan to work out so I can be in shape to enjoy another great week of fine dining. On the agenda for next week, Café Maxx, Mark’s Las Olas, Le Bistro, Sugar Reef and Beach Watch.
