This is the best part of the story. Because the Bonnet House was crazy and cool, like I told you last week. And the fox and heron were totally interesting too. I told you about that two weeks ago, right? Now I want to blog about the funniest things that happened. Monkeys!
That’s right. As in, wild monkeys! Right here in Fort Lauderdale. Living up in the trees. Where else would monkeys live, I guess? Anyway, when I say monkeys live here, you’re probably thinking it’s like a zoo. Boring! No, it’s not a zoo. Not even close! These tiny, cute, cuddly little monkeys just swing around the trees and go wherever they want all day. They could leave the Bonnet House if they want to. Sometimes they do leave. But not for long. They like it here.
So now, remember Dad and Juliette and I are walking around that crazy house I told you about? And Juliette’s brother too. Spencer! Always making dorky eyes at me like he wants to marry me someday or whatever! As if! So we all finish walking around the house now. Then we start walking around the huge, huge gardens. It’s like a park, with a lake and paths and everything.
Then. Wait! Shhhh! Juliette sees something. And she stops walking and starts whispering. “Wow, wow! Look! Look!” And Spencer goes like, “Look at WHAT? WHERE??”
“There, there! THERE!” Juliette says. She’s pointing like mad at a tree. Then I see them. So tiny you almost can’t see them. Monkeys!! Probably like three dozen monkeys all together!! They’re hanging around a few trees maybe ten feet from us!! It’s hard to believe at first. But it’s real, in front of your eyes! Wild monkeys!!
One of the cutest ones is asleep on a tree branch. All curled up. So so adorable! And some other little guy hangs by his tail, looking straight at me! The four of us walk closer now. They let us walk totally close to them too! The monkeys aren’t scared or anything. Of course dorky Spencer wants to pet one but Dad says no. So we just watch. And giggle!
They’re so funny! This one monkey goes climbing way, way up high on a skinny tree branch, then jumps about 15 feet through the air to another tree. If he misses, he’ll fall all the way down to the ground! Then this other cute monkey is eating leaves off a tree. And another monkey comes down to a branch that’s almost touching Dad’s head. Dad doesn’t move and this monkey just watches him for a long time. And Dad watches the monkey back. So then Spencer says to Dad, “Maybe the monkey thinks you’re his father!” I have to admit, that sounded pretty funny at the time.
You probably can see these monkeys too if you go visit the Bonnet House. As your blogger friend here in Fort Lauderdale, I definitely recommend it! For sure! I’ve never seen any place like it before and I don’t think there is any place like it. It’s just like Fort Lauderdale that way. Really so unbelievable sometimes. Next week, I’ll tell you about some other cool place to go. I don’t know where yet but my next blog will have the whole fun story! I’ll see you back here then!!!
