Hillsboro Beach

Three Miles of Seaside Serenity in Hillsboro Beach

Nestled between blue Atlantic Ocean waters and the sparkling Intracoastal Waterway is a tiny seaside peninsula called Hillsboro Beach. Just 3 miles long and 900 feet at its widest point, this quiet residential town invites history buffs, fishing enthusiasts or those seeking a quiet beachside stay to enjoy its unique pleasures.

Your Gateway to the Deep Blue Sea

At the southern end of Hillsboro Beach is the Hillsboro Inlet: the safe way to navigate your vessel between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s also where you’ll find an extensive fleet of charter boats ready to depart daily for fantastic deep-water fishing and other marine excursions.

Interesting History and Inspiring Views

Marking the northern end of the Florida Reef and extending 138 feet skyward is the Hillsboro Lighthouse. Capped with 5.5 million candlepower light, it’s one of the tallest and most well-lit lighthouses on the U.S. East Coast.

The lighthouse was first put into service in 1907 - but how it came to be built is a story unto itself. As early as 1855, these waters were designated hazardous for shipping navigation, yet requests to protect mariners with a lighthouse was rejected by the Federal government 17 times – it took 46 years before building was finally approved.

The Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society conducts lighthouse tours on a limited basis – enjoy both the historic backstory and the beautiful coastal views from the top.

Stroll, Bike or Drive the Magnificent Mile

Well...three magnificent miles, to be exact. Just one road, A1A Scenic Highway, runs north to south along the entire 3-mile length of the town. Take a walk or a bike ride for some exercise in the fresh ocean air and you’ll also catch views of impressive estate homes along the way.

There are quite a few dining choices close to Hillsboro Beach to match any appetite: casual sub shops to upscale seaside dining. Plenty of national chains too – none more than a 5-10 minute drive away.
