Underwater Report

8am-outside air temperature - 72 degrees, warming to 80 degrees by 10 am. With low humidity and a mild east wind, this was a great diving and boating day in South Florida. 73-degree water temperature with a flat ocean and a very mild south current with visibility of 70-plus feet made this was a blue water dive day!

The much-anticipated Grand Opening of Sullivan Park occurred under sunny skies and plenty of smiles to all the participants. Over six years in the making, the City of Deerfield Beach through its Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) spent nearly four million dollars to enhance a breathtaking view. Located directly on the Intracoastal waterway, this last remaining public land has been transformed into two playgrounds, marina, boardwalk and waterway access for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

Feb 19: Pioneer Days Parade

The sun was shining with a gentle breeze off the ocean for this year’s Deerfield Beach Pioneer Days Parade starting at 10am on Saturday, February 18. And why not, because “it never rains on Pioneer Days.” The three-day festival kicked off Friday evening, includes a carnival, food vendors, arts & crafts and live entertainment with a grand firework show off the pier on Saturday evening. The entire event is centered along Ocean Way, overlooking the white sandy beaches and crystal blue water of the Atlantic Ocean.

The winter in sunny south Florida usually consists of a cool front descending down the Florida peninsula, bringing northwest winds with temperatures dipping down into the 50’s for a half-day. While this is technically “winter,” the advantage is the clear weather, sunny skies and warming temperatures these fronts bring behind them.

8am-outside air temp-72 degrees, warmed to 80 degrees, with a gentle breeze out of the east, the sun came out around 10am. It’s been a record breaking warm winter this year with gentle breezes and great ocean conditions for diving.
