Eating fresh seafood only steps away from the white, sandy beach while rocking to music from three stages makes the Pompano Seafood Festival a unique event in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area. South Florida Diving Headquarters Jeff Torode really took care of the Chiefy Crew today. He arranged to have Captain Bradley Williams take the five of us out on the Safari Diver. The Chiefy Crew of Kamal Peters, Chuck Van Buskirk, Andrew Rubin, John Strunk and myself were very comfortable on the boat that normally has up to 11 divers. SFDH is based at the Sands Harbor Marina and Restaurant at 125 North Riverside Drive in Pompano Beach. Considering it’s the end of spiny lobster season, it’s spearing fish for the crew.

8am-outside air temp-68 degrees, warmed to 84 degrees, with a gentle breeze out of the west. This was probably the last “cool front” for south Florida as we had some rain yesterday bringing in absolutely beautiful weather today.

Apr 23: The Blue Wild Ocean Adventure Expo

The crowds were big and the enthusiasm electric at the 10th Annual Blue Wild Ocean Adventure Expo. Held on Saturday and Sunday, April 22 & 23 at the Broward County Convention Center, this dive show had everything for the underwater enthusiast. Included were over 150 vendors displaying marine art, apparel, photography, dive equipment, spearguns, Ocean Kayaks, boats and Stand up Paddle Boards. The Chiefy crew even had the opportunity to sell and autograph both Catching the Bug-2nd Edition and Catching the Spear-it as part of the dive author

Apr 15: Deerfield Beach Country Music Festival

The distinct sounds of country music filled the air along Ocean Way at the Main Beach Parking lot in Deerfield Beach on April 15. Headlining the country music acts were The Swon Brothers, finalists on the fourth season of NBC’s The Voice and opening act for the 2016 Storyteller tour of Carrie Underwood.

The breeze was brisk and the attendance was good as the crowd danced to the musical lineup including 33 Years, Liddy Clark, Ricky Valido and Maggie Baugh & Band. This City of Deerfield Beach event showcased their award-winning beach for locals
