Miguel Pilgram, Fort Lauderdale real estate developer and head of The Pilgram Group, has a vision for the economic development of neighborhoods that works hand-in-hand with cultural and heritage tourism.

The new NYSW Jazz Lounge opening in a struggling part of downtown Fort Lauderdale is an example. Tucked into a tiny courtyard off a side street between the courthouse and the railroad tracks, the lounge offers a casual-chic after-work, post-conference, special occasion meeting place with a six-night schedule of soulful music and some jazz history and memorabilia, too. A few other entertainment venues have also sprung up in the surrounding area. Pilgram has similar plans for the historic Black Sistrunk community.
