Pride of the Americas

Greater Fort Lauderdale invites everyone under the sun to the very first Pride of the Americas.

In our community, pride is a daily way of life, and in 2023, Greater Fort Lauderdale will be the home base for the first Pride of the Americas Festival. Pride Fort Lauderdale, the oldest Pride celebration in the state of Florida, will host the inaugural three-day celebration that will draw visitors from around the world.

Most Pride of the Americas 2023 events will be held on or near our pristine beaches and signature waterways. The celebration will culminate with a parade down scenic A1A along the beach, followed by a massive beach party featuring internationally recognized performers, including Boy George.

Diversity and Inclusion Reign Supreme

Women in a bar in Fort Lauderdale

Greater Fort Lauderdale is home to hundreds of gay-owned and operated businesses, along with one of the largest concentrations of LGBT+  households in the country. We’re home to one of the largest Pride Centers in the country, the world's first AIDS museum, the global headquarters of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association and the Stonewall Museum, one of the only permanent spaces in the U.S. devoted to exhibitions relating to LGBT+ history and culture.

Global Advocacy

This is an open embrace that extends far beyond the LGBT+ community. More than 58 percent of the local population are minorities and 32 percent were born in more than 100 countries. Approximately 79 percent of foreign-born residents are from Latin America, including large communities of immigrants from Cuba, Brazil and Colombia. With this melting pot of cultures, Broward County is the second most diverse county in the United States.

CONSERVATION PROGRAMS IN PLACE

Sea turtle in the ocean

Greater Fort Lauderdale is committed to hosting this event with minimal environmental impact. Energy and water conservation, along with waste recycling programs will be enacted throughout. Additionally, there are many efforts underway to safeguard the sea turtle population that will be nesting on our beaches during this time, including beach clean ups, securing of nesting sites and reduced artificial lighting near the shoreline.

Nearly 90 percent of turtle nesting in the U.S. occurs in Florida, with a large concentration occurring on the beaches of Greater Fort Lauderdale. Pride of the Americas 2020 has adopted the sea turtle as a fitting and informal mascot, commemorating this momentous occasion with one of Mother Nature’s most beloved creatures.

While in town, you will have opportunities to explore our unique ecosystems and participate in wildlife and nature conservation programs on the beach and in the Everglades.
