Greater Fort Lauderdale in December means trading in your snow boots for flip flops, shoveling sand instead of snow, and warming yourself with the sun’s rays instead of a space heater. We know how to celebrate the holidays, so it’s time to take advantage of our pleasant December weather and wide selection of events. From glittering parades on the water and craft beers on the beach to exhilarating sporting events and performance shows, there are plenty of things to do in Greater Fort Lauderdale this December.
Christmas Pageant: Through Dec. 15
This Broadway-style theater experience is one of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit. The family-friendly show takes you on a journey through the first Christmas complete with incredible performers, thrilling light displays, and even a real camel or two.
Sunday Jazz Brunch: Dec. 1
Sundays were made for relaxing by the water with a homemade picnic—and that’s exactly what this monthly event along downtown’s Riverwalk is all about. Three live jazz bands will play during the free outdoor concert that takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Christmas on Las Olas: Dec. 3
Celebrating its 57th anniversary, Las Olas is once again transformed into a pedestrian-only winter wonderland filled with holiday treats, entertainment, and local vendors. The free event will even feature a two-story snow slope for sledding!
Panthers Hockey: Dec. 3-29
For sports fans, our Florida Panthers hockey team plays 10 home games this month, so there are plenty of opportunities to grab a sweater and check out the electrifying energy that erupts in the BB&T Center arena when our local team scores.
This rock holiday concert takes its music performance to another level with a myriad of musicians and performers, magnificent laser show, ornate sets, and live fire displays.
Winterfest Boat Parade: Dec. 14
While other cities may decorate their homes with holiday lights, here in Greater Fort Lauderdale we dress up our boats and glide down the Intracoastal during the 48th annual floating holiday boat parade.
The Nutcracker: Dec. 15
This holiday classic comes with a twist this year. The sensory-friendly performance, designed for those on the autism spectrum, has been tweaked to be shorter, have a lower volume, no strobe lights, and a few less special effects so that the entire audience can enjoy the show in a fun environment.
Take the family out to an evening on the sands of Hallandale Beach for a movie screening. The beachside big screen will be showing a holiday classic while you relax on a swanky day bed with a glass of rosé and a maki dish.
Shooters New Year’s Eve Celebration: Dec. 31
Celebrate the New Year at this family-friendly, waterfront celebration featuring a delicious four-course meal, DJ, Samba dancers, LED robot musicians, fire dancers, party favors, and a midnight champagne toast. Cheers!
