Broward County Boasts its First-Ever Magellan Awards from Travel Weekly and
Seven Flagler Awards from VISIT FLORIDA®

GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (September 27, 2018) – Greater Fort Lauderdale continues its enviable track record of earned accolades including the destination’s first Travel Weekly Magellan Awards followed by seven Flagler Awards presented during the annual Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism.

“These awards aptly recognize the destination’s creative and strategic marketing initiatives and our advancing appeal as a top tourism hotspot,” says Stacy Ritter, President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Conventions & Visitors Bureau. “This also honors the partners and the people who all have a part in creating the Greater Fort Lauderdale experience – reflecting the pride, passion and love in sharing Broward County with our visitors.”   

Competing against the most-traveled destinations in North America, Greater Fort Lauderdale was named 2018 Travel Weekly Gold Magellan Award winner for the "Greater Together" initiative. Additionally, Greater Fort Lauderdale earned the Silver Magellan Award in the Honeymoon Destination category for being featured on “The Bachelor.” The Magellan Awards, judged and overseen by a one-of-a-kind panel of top travel professionals representing the best names and most accomplished leaders from the industry, are among the travel industry’s most coveted honors.

Presented by VISIT FLORIDA®, Greater Fort Lauderdale claimed four Gold “Henry” and three Bronze 2018 Flagler Awards.

The Flagler Awards recognize exceptional tourism marketing efforts of Florida's travel businesses, destinations and attractions and acknowledges outstanding achievement in promoting and marketing state tourism. The awards, nicknamed "Henrys," salute Henry Flagler, the late 19th- and early 20th-century railroad and hotel magnate whom many people consider the grandfather of Florida's tourism industry.
