600,000 square feet, encompassing 17 acres

Location: Northern end of Port Everglades, the world's second largest cruise port.  The center is bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway, Southeast 17th Street Causeway and Eisenhower Boulevard.

Design Description:     The front of the Gold LEED-certified, three-level meeting and exhibit facility is a glass curtain wall, offering vistas of the Intracoastal Waterway, the city of Fort Lauderdale and a 1.3 acre fountain plaza featuring a 35-foot bronze sailfish sculpture. The complex is directly accessible from both 17th Street (A1A), State Road 84 and Interstate 595.  The airport is one and one-half miles away.

New Convention Center Hotel
& Expansion Project:

A full-service facility, 750-room Convention Center hotel including a 40,000-square-foot ballroom, 15,000-square-foot junior ballroom and 25,000 square feet of meeting room space.

An expansion of the Convention Center including the addition of a 70,000-square-foot ballroom, 15,000-square-foot junior ballroom and 27,000 square feet of meeting room space. The expanded convention center will total approximately 860,000-sq. ft.

Additional site improvements include entertainment and retail and maximizing the waterfront location to draw tourists, convention delegates and locals.

Project Timeline:

2014: Community outreach, master planning and developer solicitation.

2015: Project negotiations, site analysis and project design.

2016: Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2016 and take three years to complete.

Previous Developments:      

A $34 million expansion was completed at the Convention Center March 2002.  Now offering a total of 600,000 gross square feet, the new space includes a 50,000 square foot exhibition space, additional meeting rooms, pre-function space, kitchen and storage areas.

Meeting Facility
Exhibit Hall:

The 600,000 square-foot, three story convention center, owned by Broward County, contains 200,000 square feet of exhibit hall space, a 33,000 square foot and a 20,000 square-foot ballroom; 54,325 square feet of meeting space, 101,276 square feet of pre-function/registration space, 22,000 square feet of food preparation area and 19 covered loading docks.

The exhibit hall, which accommodates 1050 10x10 foot booths, can be divided, by concealed movable walls, into four smaller halls.  Hall A contains 64,887 square feet, Hall B, 43,018 square feet, Hall C, 42,774 square feet and Hall D, 48,847 square feet.  Each hall has its own foyer, food-concession area and loading docks.  Thirty-one meeting and break-out rooms range in size from 523 to 9,313 square feet.  The 20,000 square-foot ballroom accommodates 1,800 banquet style, and has a capacity for 150 exhibit booths.  The 32,000 square foot ballroom can be divided into eight meeting rooms ranging in size from 2700 to 5342 square feet, bringing the total number of meeting/breakout rooms to 39.

In addition to the street-level entrance, there is direct access into the center from the second level of the 2,500 space parking garage via a climate controlled skywalk.


Parking facilities, with direct access into the Convention Center, provide 2,500 spaces dedicated to the Convention Center and cruise ship terminals.
