Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 13, 2016) – The launch of Emirates Airlines’ daily non-stop service to Dubai on December 15 will mark two years of unprecedented growth at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO, Stacy Ritter, said today that the latest addition of Emirates Airlines to the airport’s carriers is the result of a long-term growth strategy by the airport and Broward County to develop the destination as one of the top in the country for international travelers.

In addition to Emirates Airlines new services announced this week, other international service to Greater Fort Lauderdale have been recently added from JetBlue Airlines to Cuba and Mexico, and from Norwegian Air Shuttle to Paris and the West Indies.

“We could not be happier to be Emirates’ 11th gateway city in the U.S., putting us in the class of the biggest and most well-known cities in America, alongside New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and others,” said Stacy Ritter, President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“This new flight opens up a gateway to the Middle East and Asia, two markets we have been beginning to build brand recognition with, but there has never been such convenient connectivity until now. This new route is part of continued and unprecedented growth in airlift at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport as record-numbers of international visitors from around the world are drawn to our beaches and outstanding culinary offerings, attractions and the lifestyle of this cosmopolitan destination.”

Emirates’ daily flight EK213 will depart Dubai (DXB) at 3:00 a.m. local time and arrive in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) at 10:25 a.m. The return flight EK214 will depart FLL at 8:20 p.m. arriving in Dubai at 7:40 p.m. the following day, with a flying time of 14 hours and 20 minutes.

Emirates Airlines will operate a GE-powered US-built Boeing 777-200LR aircraft in a three-class configuration on the route, offering eight First Class suites, 42 Business Class lie-flat beds and 216 Economy Class seats for travelers.

“This latest announcement opens up Greater Fort Lauderdale to more international markets, as well as opens doors into markets we are aggressively targeting in areas neighboring Dubai, such as India and China,” said Fernando Harb, Vice President Tourism Sales, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “And Emirates’ codeshare partnership with JetBlue is a win-win for our destination as it becomes a major gateway between the United States and the Middle East.”
