A new meaning to the underground movement surfaces in Fort Lauderdale. "Underground Lauderdale brings music, film, fashion and art," says Noelle Stevenson, Film Commissioner for the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward Office of Film & Entertainment at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.
As an indie rock music hub, Greater Fort Lauderdale has become the hang out spot to underground industry events such as the Pearl Fashion & Film Gala, I.W.A.N (Independent Working Artist Network), The Bubble, Driven Music & Art Festival, Chili Cook-Off music festival, Cajun Zydeco festival, Unifest Caribbean music festival, Dancegiving music festival. The destination is also home to international and foreign film festivals, Songwriter's Showcase, Red Eye, Dunkxchange, Art Walk, Comedy Showcase, underground music lounges and local bands performing in various live music bars throughout Broward.
"It takes an individual with imagination to appreciate the unique sounds, to visualize color behind style, and to explore the evolution of art. Creativity without the commercial end is what Underground Lauderdale is about...simply the real deal," said Noelle Stevenson, Film Commissioner, Broward Office of Film & Entertainment.
Hip neighborhoods include the up and coming FAT VILLAGE, F.A.T. is trendy. F.A.T. is cool. F.A.T. is growing. And by F.A.T., we mean Flagler Arts & Technology Village in downtown Fort Lauderdale - a new neighborhood that's seriously amping up the area's cool factor. Bordered by the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District, home to the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale and Broward Center for the Performing Arts, F.A.T. is a section of downtown Fort Lauderdale built in the 1950s of industrial warehouses that's fast becoming a magnet for emerging artists, galleries, performers, fashion and film.
For music lovers with diverse sound preferences will find a melting pot of music genres from indie to rock, from dance to country, from jazz to classical. And if music is not enough, you can turn around the next corner and catch a great foreign film at Cinema Paradiso. Stroll down to F.A.T Village and check out the art or fashion in one of the warehouses. Catch a bite in the Himmarshee district before you dance the night away at Revolution Live, if you are lucky you might just even catch a concert!
"F.A.T. is more than just an up-and-coming neighborhood. It's creating a Lauderdale Underground movement and exciting new energy and focus to the evolving arts, music, film and fashion scene in Greater Fort Lauderdale," said Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. "For art enthusiasts who like their entertainment on the beach chic side, we offer a range of experiences from classical to contemporary to never-seen-before visual and performing arts."
