Golf

Lush links and loads of courses combined with easy accessibility, comparatively low green fees, unmatched settings and year-round play make Greater Fort Lauderdale a hole-in-one for golfers. Featuring more than 35 world-class courses—including tracks designed by architects such as Donald Ross, George and Tom Fazio, and Robert Trent Jones—Greater Fort Lauderdale’s lush links are an opportunity for golfers of every ability to soak up golf history and sink a few birdies amidst beautiful surroundings and modern, first-class amenities.

Play Where the Pros Play

Visitors who golf in Greater Fort Lauderdale are golfing where the greats play. Courses here regularly host PGA, USGA, and FSGA events, including many open for daily-fee golf. Three in particular should be on the bucket list of every serious player: Heron Bay Golf Club, Eagle Trace Golf Club, and Hollywood Beach Golf Club.

Both Heron Bay Golf Club and  Eagle Trace Golf Club have played host to the PGA’s Honda Classic tournament but couldn’t be more different in their character. Water comes into play on just three holes at the subtly contoured Heron Bay course, while Eagle Trace includes an island green and every par-3 requires golfers to risk losing their ball to the water.

Designed by famed golf course architect Donald Ross in 1924, Hollywood Beach Golf Club is a must-play destination steeped in history. Situated on a 110-acre property far from commercial and residential areas, the courses’ unique par-70 layout—including five par-3s—offers golfers beauty and tranquility.

Golfing Treasures

With such a surplus of great golf, it can be easy to miss out on some of Greater Fort Lauderdale’s gems. Don’t overlook the courses in Pompano Beach and Pembroke Pines, which combine competitive greens fees, perfectly manicured grounds, and friendly golf professionals.

Palm-Aire Country Club boasts three championship courses as well as Conte’s Palm-Aire Golf Academy, a leader in the field of golf instruction. Play the Oaks or Cypress courses, designed by George and Tom Fazio, or the Palms course, laid out by William Mitchell, with friends or as part of the Day with a Professional program that allows visitors the opportunity to play 18 holes with a certified PGA professional.

A little further east is Pompano Beach Golf Course, close enough to the Atlantic to smell the saltwater. Be sure to adjust your shots for wind when the ocean air is blowing in! Choose from two 18-hole courses, including the recently redesigned Greg Norman Signature Pines Course that has already gained a reputation as a golfer’s paradise.

Also recently renovated and returned to full glory is Pembroke Lakes Golf and Racquet Club. With perfectly maintained coquina shell bunkers, a quick pace of play, and dazzling water features, Pembroke Lakes is one of the best bargains Greater Fort Lauderdale golf has to offer. With both hard and clay tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a restaurant and lounge, Pembroke Lakes is a full-service sporting and leisure destination.
