Created by the Board of Broward County Commissioners in 1987, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau (GFLCVB) is a governmental agency funded by a portion of the five percent (as of July 1, 1996) tax on hotel rooms. The Marketing Communications Division helps generate positive media coverage for Greater Fort Lauderdale by arranging media tours, creating news releases and a range of publications including the Vacation Planner, Visitors Map & Events Calendar, Superior Small Lodging Directory, Meeting Planners Guide, CVBuzz e-newsletter, plus an extensive audio visual library. The department oversees all interactive marketing, including the sunny.org website and is responsible for the creation, production and placement of the destination's tourism advertising.
